Intel C++ Compiler v13.0 for Android - get it while it's free!

28-08-2013

Chip giant Intel has released v13.0 of its C++ compiler for Intel-based Android devices.

In the System Requirements tab, you'll notice a couple of key things:
a) it's a Linux Command-Line tool only (going so far as to specify you need to run it on Ubuntu 10.04 or 11.04) and
b) that it targets Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich

If you dig a little deeper you'll find a hefty support documentation pdf which gives a list of new features including:

  • New option to enable optimisations for "Silvermont" architecture.
  • Support for Android NDK r8e.
  • Compatibility and stability fixes for AOSP build.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Many new features from C++11
  • 64-bit long double type support (for compatibility with new NDKs)
  • Intel® Cilk™ Plus runtime support enabled for Android as a technology preview (Intel enhancements to C++ for multicore and vector processing).

The compiler is currently free until it becomes not free at a time of Intel's choosing...So grab it now if you want to squeeze more juice out of your Intel Atom-powered JB or ICS Android apps!
