Python 3.4.0 Alpha 1 released into the wild

The first Alpha version of 3.4.0 was released by the guys at Python.org on Saturday.

This is the first preview of the next major release.

Some key features/changes noted at release by python.org include:

  • PEP 435, a standardized "enum" module
  • PEP 442, improved semantics for object finalization
  • PEP 443, adding single-dispatch generic functions to the standard library
  • PEP 445, a new C API for implementing custom memory allocators
