Remote working is a whole new world for many of us, with so much to get our head around. There are worries that our internet connection will hold up, and whether there’s sufficient bandwidth for the whole family. Let alone juggling home schooling and finding a quiet space.

All of this means we might forget about cyber security, so here are our top security tips for working from home.

  1. No doubt you’re using Zoom meetings for work - make sure you use a password and unique meeting ID.
  2. When did you last check your devices were using the latest security updates? Now’s the time.
  3. Conmen love to capitalise on a crisis. Be extra wary of phishing / email scams – e.g. double-check invoices are expected before paying them.
  4. There are hackers a plenty so it’s worth checking if your email has been hacked. Check www.haveibeenpwned.com
  5. We know it sounds a drag but use a unique password on every account you sign up for. Password manager is a great tool.
  6. Better to be safe than sorry - use Multi-factor authentication for every account you can.
  7. Encrypt your files – use Bitlocker for Windows and FileVault on Macs.
  8. Is your internet router still using the default password? If so, change it pronto, and update its firmware while you’re at it.
  9. We realise this isn’t possible for everyone but try to keep your use of personal and work devices strictly separate.
  10. And last but not least, if you’re leaving your desk lock your screen. You never know which cat, toddler or hamster might come along and tamper with your keyboard!

Good luck and stay safe!
