Tom started off his IT career back in ’97 working in (and later running) customer support for a popular multimedia publishing company. It was simultaneously very rewarding and highly draining, but he looks back on his time on the helpdesk with great fondness.
The move into technical training came naturally – although it was difficult at first to shake off the pavlovian reaction to incoming phonecalls. From here his voyage into geekhood was unavoidably hastened.
Outside the office, Tom divides his time between his family (he’s outnumbered 4:1 in the battle of the sexes), drumming along to old jazz / funk records, writing electronic music, reading sci-fi, and feeding his video game addiction. Tom can order a beer, express gratitude, and apologise profusely in at least 10 different languages.
After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music and subsequently working as a freelance classical double bass player, Ian spent 20 years working in software services with the last 10 years in the software development training sector.
A passion for all things computer-related was sparked by receiving a ZX81 for his 9th birthday which was followed by a chain of much-loved home computers, most of which he still has.
Pleasant distractions from work include his young family, his guitars, way too many books, an obsession with cooking, fixing old cars, and a life-long love of sailing (both armchair and the real thing).
