Business need

Francesca Woodman is the Digital Marketing Manager at Power NI. When a new Digital Product Owner joined the team in January 2025, Francesca saw Azure DevOps training as the perfect foundation to support them in their new role and build confidence with agile tools and processes. What began as a tailored session for the new Digital Product Owner quickly grew into a wider opportunity as other colleagues working with Azure expressed an interest, turning it into a valuable team-wide upskilling initiative we were delighted to support! 

When it came to providers, Francesca knew who to call. Power NI had already worked with Framework Training in 2023, as the previous Digital Product Owner had partnered with us for training. The feedback from this programme was excellent, and with a strong recommendation behind us, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the team again.

The Brief

Although the Power NI team weren’t seeking a fully bespoke programme, there was a wide range of experience within the group, from those with limited exposure to Azure to highly experienced users working with it daily. They found our course syllabus comprehensive and covering multiple areas compared to others on the market, and were interested to explore this further. 

The delegates were colleagues from Power NI in Belfast and Energia in Dublin, plus an external contact from a UX agency they collaborate with who uses Azure daily. With a blend of skill levels and team members based across different locations, Francesca connected with our trainer, Andy, ahead of the programme to talk through the group’s needs. 

Andy was enthusiastic about tailoring the content to suit everyone and had no hesitation in travelling to Power NI’s offices in Belfast to deliver the training face-to-face. It was a great fit all round, and we ticked several boxes

The Solution

Framework Training delivered an Agile with Azure DevOps programme to the Power NI team in March 2025. We delivered a two-day, interactive programme with real-world examples and plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions throughout.  

Our training package also included a follow-up session with Andy, providing learners with a valuable chance to review the improvements they have implemented in their work since the training. 

Learner Feedback

We received glowing feedback about Andy! Francesca and the team described him as knowledgeable, engaging and personable with an easy-going manner that instantly put them at ease. He was considerate of varying levels and experiences across the group, using effective techniques including the ‘Parking Lot’, which allowed learners to capture their thoughts and questions on a sticky note in the moment without interrupting the flow of the programme. 

They also appreciated how Andy created a safe and open learning environment, encouraging participation and helping learners feel comfortable asking questions.

Applied learning

Andy brought the training to life with real-life examples, tailored to everyone’s roles and daily tasks. The Power NI team followed along on their laptops, working directly with the software, Azure, that Andy demonstrated. This hands-on approach gave them the chance to engage with practical scenarios and understand how this could be applied to their everyday work.

Personalised materials

At the start of the programme, learners received a personalised workbook that clearly outlined the structure and content for the two-day course. It included exercises that mirrored what participants would see on screen, helping everyone stay focused and on track. 

Advanced functionality

Before the training, the team described themselves as being ‘very early in our Azure DevOps journey’ and using it at ‘quite a basic level’ - only ‘scratching the surface’ of its capabilities. Andy showcased the tool’s functionalities during the training, like advanced analytics and a comprehensive reporting section that the team hadn’t been aware of. This discovery presented an exciting opportunity for the team and the wider business, as it unlocked new ways to leverage the software for greater impact. This part of the programme particularly stood out, and they found real-life use cases and examples of similarities, such as an Azure to Jira comparison, useful. 

Working with us as a team

Francesca’s experience working with Framework Training was very positive. She found our Technical Director, Tom Walker, adaptable and amenable and appreciated Andy's flexibility with timings, allowing colleagues travelling from Dublin to start a little later across the two days. 

Training Impact

The team at Power NI is already experiencing positive results. They have improved the tagging system, broadened their understanding of how their external agencies use Azure boards, and - thanks to the training - the team are speaking the same unified language with common definitions and terminology. They have also gained a greater understanding of Azure states and streamlined them, making the development process much smoother. They are excited about leveraging reporting tools, dashboards and other related features once their Azure boards are more established.

The team at Power NI were extremely pleased with the training. It met their needs perfectly and delivered the necessary tools and insights to support their roles and business goals. They would work with Andy and Framework Training again, especially involving Azure and related technologies. This is music to our ears!
