About the course
This intensive 2-day interactive training course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Scrum Framework and prepare them for the Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM) certification exam offered by the Scrum Alliance. Focusing on practical application and a deep dive into the "why" behind Scrum principles, the course goes beyond theoretical concepts to equip aspiring Scrum Masters with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively guide and support their teams, Product Owners, and organisations in adopting and living the Agile mindset. The training incorporates discussions, exercises, and simulations to provide a hands-on experience of Scrum.
The course begins by exploring the fundamental concepts of Agility and the core principles that underpin the Scrum Framework, as defined in the authoritative Scrum Guide™. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of Scrum's purpose, its underlying theory (empiricism, lean thinking), and how its simple yet powerful structure helps teams address complex adaptive problems while inspecting and adapting to deliver valuable products incrementally. A significant portion of the training is dedicated to detailing the Scrum Framework's essential components: understanding the accountabilities and services of the three Scrum Roles (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Development Team), the purpose, time-boxes, and flow of the five Scrum Events (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, and the Sprint itself), and the purpose and characteristics of the three Scrum Artifacts (Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Increment), along with their associated commitments (Product Goal, Sprint Goal, Definition of Done).
Participants will delve into the dynamics of the Scrum Lifecycle, from understanding the nature of Product Backlog Items to detailing the contents and characteristics of the Sprint Backlog and grasping the crucial importance and use of the "Definition of Done" for ensuring transparency, quality, and understanding the state of the Increment. Towards the end of the workshop, time permitting, participants will have the opportunity to vote for optional modules covering topics such as Planning, Forecasting, and Estimating in Scrum, considerations for Distributed Scrum Teams, concepts related to Performance measurement in Scrum, or practical guidance on Applying Scrum and Getting Started in the role. This allows for a degree of customisation based on the specific interests of the attending group. By the end of this accredited course, attendees will be well-prepared to successfully sit the official Scrum Alliance CSM exam and confidently begin their journey as effective Scrum Masters, serving their teams and organisations.
Instructor-led online and in-house face-to-face options are available - as part of a wider customised training programme, or as a standalone workshop, on-site at your offices or at one of many flexible meeting spaces in the UK and around the World.
